SoftBank partnership completes our Asia-Pacific network
With SoftBank's networks in Japan and Korea, customers with offices there get better performance and cross-border collaboration; we supply SoftBank with elastic GPU compute.
Singfung Group today announces a partnership with SoftBank. Through SoftBank's backbone and access networks in Japan and Korea, our cross-border network gains solid landing points there, completing our Asia-Pacific coverage; in turn, we supply SoftBank with elastic GPU compute on demand.
Where customers were stuck
Many of our manufacturing customers are headquartered in mainland China or Hong Kong, with offices or R&D centres in Japan and Korea. Connections from Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul back to head office often struggled across borders: video calls stuttered, design files and ERP sync took ages, and evening peaks made it worse.
One precision-parts customer told us their Japanese team spent half of every Monday-morning cross-border meeting reconnecting; engineers would rather courier a hard drive of design files than wait on the network.
Completing the picture
Our cross-border network already landed in Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Texas and Munich; only Japan and Korea still relied on the public internet. With SoftBank:
- Offices in Japan and Korea connect through SoftBank's network, with shorter, steadier routes home.
- Video calls, file sync and ERP take optimised paths, so teams across borders work as if in one office.
- Customers request and manage links from the Labs account centre, with one invoice alongside their other cloud services.
A partnership both ways
It works both ways. We give SoftBank elastic compute on demand: GPU servers deployed on SoftBank's own sites, and GPU capacity scheduled from our data centres to cover peaks quickly. Each side uses what it does best to fill what the other most needs.
What is next
SoftBank is now one of our most important core partners. Next we will bring the Japan and Korea links to more cities and take the same approach to manufacturing clusters in South-East Asia. If your company has an office in Japan or Korea and struggles with cross-border connections, contact the Labs network team — we can start with a free line test.
