With AIA, for colleagues and their families — and what insurance doesn’t cover, we do

From today every colleague has mid-to-high-end global medical insurance with AIA, extended to family after a year with us. Medical costs beyond the policy, needs around faith and pregnancy, and hard times at home are covered by the company too.

After we launched Employee Wellbeing last November, colleagues brought a lot to the open hearing at the end of the year — and what they talked about most was family. Some have ageing parents, some spend half the year travelling for work, some have just become parents. Much of what we are announcing today came from that hearing.

Global medical insurance with AIA

  • Every new and current colleague has AIA’s mid-to-high-end global medical insurance from their first day.
  • After a year with us, cover extends to a colleague’s immediate family and to the people who raised them — related by blood or not. The people who brought you up are your family.
  • Whether a colleague is on a business trip, a short holiday or working remotely around the world as a digital nomad — or their family is away relaxing — they are covered wherever AIA provides cover (except in the countries and regions AIA explicitly excludes). We have them covered, so everyday life and every journey can be faced with confidence.

It is a partnership that runs both ways: AIA protects our people, and Singfung Labs provides AIA with network optimisation across Asia Pacific and encryption for its cross-border data.

What insurance doesn’t cover, the company does

Every policy has its limits. From a cold or a fever to specialist medicines the insurance does not cover, and the travel and transfers needed for treatment, the company supports it all. When someone is ill, rest should be the only thing they have to think about.

Faith, pregnancy and family

  • Faith: support with the religious items colleagues need, and respect for festivals, prayer times and dietary needs in rotas and events.
  • Pregnancy and birth: antenatal appointments, rest and changes to work can be arranged at any time; through maternity leave and the birth itself, the company and the wellbeing committee stay in touch and help with whatever is needed.
  • Hard times at home: if a colleague loses a family member, the company makes a compassionate payment; after an accident, any trouble or any injustice, the Towards the Light Wellbeing Foundation and the law firm it works with stand up for the colleague and their family; if illness is more than the household can afford, the company helps case by case; and where the criteria are not met, an interest-free loan over a very long term is still available.

Why we do this

People often say “treat the company as your family”, but few ever turn it round and truly treat colleagues as theirs. Through the busiest days of every new project, our colleagues never counted the cost; this time it is the group’s turn to keep its promises.

Our people are the best thing we have. Looking after them — and the people they care about most — is the most important thing a company can do well.
