Working with Wise: customers can pay in their own currency
Customers abroad can pay by local transfer into our Wise accounts, with clear rates and fast arrival, and no intermediary banks taking a cut.
Our customers come from many countries. International wires meant intermediary banks deducting fees, amounts that did not match, finance chasing payments one by one — and customers paying sizeable fees on modest invoices. From today, customers abroad can pay in their own currency into our receiving accounts at Wise.
The journey of a hundred-dollar invoice
Before, a customer in the UK paying a hundred-dollar cloud invoice would convert pounds to dollars at their bank, with a margin on the rate; send an international wire and pay a fee; the money passed through one or two intermediary banks, each perhaps taking a little; and what reached us was often in the nineties. We had to ask for the difference, and the customer was baffled — they had paid a hundred.
What changed
- We hold receiving accounts in several currencies at Wise, so customers pay by local transfer, like a domestic bill.
- Exchange uses the mid-market rate with fees shown up front; no more deductions along the way.
- Money usually arrives the same day, so invoices are marked paid and services start sooner.
How to pay
Choose bank transfer / Wise on the invoice to see the receiving details for your currency. Put the invoice number in the reference; once the money arrives we record the payment on the invoice, and you can upload proof of payment in your account centre to speed things up.
Why Wise
We compared several options. What won us over was how Wise puts fees and rates in the open: you know in advance what you pay and what arrives. That matches what we ask of ourselves — prices should be transparent, and customers should not pay for steps they cannot see.
Bank transfer, Wise and card payment remain options on every invoice today. It was our first fintech partnership, and it convinced us that good partners take a problem off our customers' hands.
